MAT Practice Guidance Summary & Link
Description
Item Number: SA5843
The prevalence of opioid misuse and addiction among adolescents and young adults continues to increase across the United States. Specific to opioid use disorders (OUD), the Bureau of Substance Addiction Services (BSAS) recognizes and supports Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) combined with behavioral interventions as an effective practice that can support adolescents and young adults to achieve sobriety and engage in long-term recovery. This Practice Guidance was developed with a focus on youth ages 16 to 24 with identified OUD. The aim is to enable service providers (including but not limited to BSAS licensed and/or contracted treatment providers) to better engage, retain, and support this population’s treatment process.
